time to get serious

17 Jul

so as it usually happens (except for last month for some reason), i’ve started writing my story and during the last week decide it’s utter garbage.  i LOVE my story idea but i don’t like the main character, which i think may turn into a problem.

it seems derek is doing pretty good with his own story now, so i guess he can read this if he so chooses.

my story is a sort of a poker game between god and the devil.

wait, that’s not right at all.

my story this month is about a young man (probably a teenager but it may change) who is just sort of an average, everyday, middle ages sort of guy.  to work in the ‘something occurs on a certain date’ topic into play, i’m making a sword in the stone story.  every 200 years on the 4th full moon there is the sword celebration where anyone can attempt to remove the sword from the stone and become the new king (or queen i suppose).

the main character is far from one of the favorites to remove the sword.  in fact, he’s pretty far down the list.  but he’s going to give it a shot anyway, because why not?

now comes my issue with him – he’s sort of a whiny little bitch.

he just wants to live his life, do his own thing and the read some books.  he doesn’t want to be bothered with kingship and festivals and whatnot.

i’m not sure how i’m going to remedy this situation other than throwing out what i have written and starting over again trying to make him a bit less douchey.

at least i only have 4 days until we turn in our drafts …

also, if anyone would like to request the short stories we are writing, please send an email to with the request.  you can pick a random month, you can pick a couple months, or you can have all six months of stories sent to you for the low cost of free.

we are also interested in feedback about the stories.  we don’t care if it’s someone telling us our stories are awful.  at least it gives us ways to improve upon them in the future.

You know who you’re writing, don’t you? You’re writing a lead character from one of the Final Fantasy games. Whiny, sword-carrying bitches.
