October & November

08 Nov

Aaron’s been up poop’s creek with poop for a paddle. Aside from Hurricane problems (and now likely nor’easter problems), he’s had a car wreck (nobody hurt as far as I know) and grumpy kids to deal with. Needless to say, writing has not been first on his plate. So we’ve made a decision, or rather two:

1) For October, Aaron’s still working on his 2nd edits. Normally we do three drafts total of a story, but I think everyone will get ours after he submits his new version. It will probably have some hiccups in it, but there’s not much to be done. After all, it’s already the 8th.

2) As for November, we were originally going to scrap the month entirely, but I still like the idea of doing 12 stories in 12 months. Since we’ve lost essentially half our writing time already, we will be doing microstories. They are to short stories what novellas are to novels. Whereas our normal stories are usually from 4000-6000 words, this one will be probably 1000-2000.

Our topic, which is not really a topic but a first sentence of the story, will be:

It’s dark. Why is it dark? Wait…where am I? Ahh yes, the (fill the blank).

We already know our December topic, and it will be a doozy, so there could possibly be an element of “phoning this month in.” We’re going to try our best to avoid it, but hey, life happens and it’s usually pretty important stuff.

just a little follow up – no person was hurt, but my wife’s car lost an all-out street brawl with a deer. luckily it was after my boys had been dropped off at daycare, so they were spared the horrors of the first few minutes of ‘bambi,’ unlike how i was subjected to it when i wasn’t much older than my eldest.

i should also have my final draft finished tonight or tomorrow and you should all have it by the end of this weekend. i’ll write an actual blog post about this past month and the story when i have more than 5 minutes of free time.
